Reflection
Experience:
This module was a completely new experience for me, and I was pretty nervous at the start since my groupmates had more experience, especially from their work in the Minor Project class. It made me feel a little out of my depth, especially when Ms. Lilian mentioned that this module was usually for students in Semester 4 and up, and here I was, only in Semester 5! But as I got into the work, I realized it wasn’t as intimidating as I thought. I learned a lot by diving into the design process and getting to collaborate with such a skilled team. There were definitely challenges along the way, especially with communication and the client’s vague feedback, but overall, the experience was enjoyable and fulfilling. I also ended up stepping in to take over the social media posts, which added some extra work to my plate. At first, it was frustrating because I wasn’t expecting to do that, but in the end, I found it quite fun and learned a lot about creating content that grabs attention. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I came out with new skills and a fresh perspective.
Observation:
Throughout this project, I observed that our team was really skilled, and I appreciated how everyone was so capable. It made the process smoother overall, especially when I needed help. When I felt unsure about something, my teammates were always there to guide me. That sense of teamwork pushed me to step up and contribute more. However, one thing I noticed was that the graphic design and UX teams (me, Rachel, Ben, and Vincent) were doing most of the heavy lifting. We had a lot of work to manage, which was a bit overwhelming at times, but the good communication and support within the group made it easier to handle. Another observation was that the client’s feedback was often vague and unclear, which required me to be more proactive in asking questions to fully understand their needs. Even though this created some uncertainty, it pushed me to think more creatively and approach the design in different ways. In the end, Rachel and I ended up on the same page, which made the collaboration process much smoother.
Findings:
The biggest takeaway from this experience was how much I learned about design language and how small design changes can have a huge impact. I learned the importance of paying attention to every detail and how different approaches can affect the overall outcome. I also realized how crucial clear communication is. Misunderstandings and a lack of clarity from both the team and the client made things harder than they needed to be, so now I see how vital it is to communicate effectively. Research also turned out to be a lot less overwhelming than I initially thought; once I started, it helped me stay organized and find the best solutions. Finally, working on the social media posts was a big learning experience for me. I had to figure out how to balance text, visuals, and branding to create something that would grab attention. Even though I wouldn’t call myself a pro in graphic design, this experience helped me improve my skills and gave me more confidence in creating social media content. All in all, I learned that collaboration, clear communication, and attention to detail can make a huge difference in the success of a project.
