Task 3 / Testing and Refinement

Instructions

MIB:

Project Brief:

Progress
For this task, our group is tasked with creating low-cost, scaled-down prototypes of the product or specific features. These prototypes allow us to explore and test the solutions identified in previous stages. By implementing these solutions in prototypes and gathering user feedback, we can evaluate their effectiveness, identify any limitations, and gain valuable insights into how users might interact with the product.

Packaging
After the last presentation, we came up with sketches that better match the client's request for Scandinavian-themed patterns in the packaging. Me and Rachel decided to work together into this.

After receiving feedback, we realized that the design was too cluttered and didn’t align well with the brand or logo. To address this, I created alternative sketches for the exterior, ensuring they were cohesive with the interior designs from Task 2.

Afterwards, Rachel refined the design with consistency by reusing the same design elements across all three packages while giving each its own distinct color palette. For the digitizing process, Rachel suggested tracing the elements without using line art to achieve a cleaner and more cohesive look.

After packaging sketches were done , we started digitalizing the packaging.

Digitalization
Our Digitalization process were done by using Adobe Illustrator, we split our works on doing the digitalization

1. Apple

Figure 1.3 Apple Exterior (Joan)

After discussing the design as a group and comparing it to the rose design, we agreed that it had too many patterns and motifs for a minimalist Scandinavian style and might not meet the client’s expectations. Some colors, like the pink, stood out too much, making further refinements essential before moving on to the mockup stage.

After working on the exterior, Rachel also made a digitalized version of the interior

2. Rose

3. Baby Powder

Figure 1.8 Baby Powder Exterior (Ben)

For the baby powder design, the initial design wasn't really approved by the group since it wasnt to the satisfaction, and it also looks out of place compared to the other scent design. Ben was working on the Digitalization for the baby powder, and the outcome wasnt really reaching the satisfaction, so i end up redesigning it and digitalize it.

instead of putting a baby powder, or baby toys in the design i did a research on what could represent the baby powder scent, and it leads me to the clouds and daisies, cause daisies and clouds represent to innocence and softness, i start sketching and after finishing sketching i immediately digitalized the design in Adobe Illustrator and did some color palette experiment, i also digitalized the interior for the baby powder design afterwards.

Afterwards Rachel modified the color to be more fitting into the scent.

Packaging Mockups
Packaging was mostly done by Joan, After finalizing the packaging the design, the design was passed to Joan to make a mockups of , and Ben also did the PNG version of the mockup.

Website
Ms.Lilian told us that the previous design of our website was too minimalistic and monochrome for the brand, which isnt really cohesive with the brand identity/art direction. So Vincent tried to make the website to be more playful by adding colors and patterns into the website.

Social Media
Sim and Joan was tasked to create posts for the social media, Joan was tasked into making the reels/animation videos. Meanwhile Sim are in charged of making the static posts.

After everything was completed, We compiled all of them into the canva slides.

Feedback

Week 6

  • Too many shapes and pictures, like squares, make the layout feel cluttered and disrupt the flow.
  • Inconsistent use of brand elements is causing a lack of cohesion.
  • Simplifying patterns and elements can create a cleaner, more Scandinavian-inspired packaging design.

Week 7

  • Overusing lines in the design should be reconsidered; blending them with patterns can add a playful touch.
  • Review the fonts for the logo and website—headings in the hero section and the logo font are clashing.
  • Build a strong brand identity first; the logo font doesn’t need to be used for website headings.
  • Progress has been delayed due to communication gaps and internal issues.
  • The mascot’s digital version needs refinement—sharp edges should be softened.
  • The placement of the mascot and brand name feels overly complicated; try simpler layouts.

Week 9
Typography

  • Product information is missing, and fonts are inconsistent. Choose a cohesive set of typefaces for all assets.

Website

  • The impact page feels disconnected due to mismatched shapes and colors.
  • Avoid generic shapes and use design elements from the logo to create a more cohesive look.

Reflection

This task was mostly about refining our work, but miscommunication within the team made it harder than it needed to be. That said, it was refreshing for me because I got to use Adobe Illustrator again after a long time, which helped me brush up on my skills.

The main thing I learned is how important clear communication is to avoid unnecessary struggles. I also realized that research isn’t as overwhelming as it seems once you start—it actually makes things easier and more organized. Overall, the work itself wasn’t too challenging; it was the teamwork and miscommunication that caused the real issues.
