Week 3 :
  • In this week we had an online class and Mr.Hafiz gave us a tutorial on how to color using gradient tool, blob brush and pattern to be used for our vormator characters.
Week 4 :
  • Review session for our assignment!

Visual Research

The assignment that are given to us is that we can only use these elements to create a character, however there are two things that we are not allowed to do which are :
  1. No skewing or free transform
  2. No altering the original shapes

1.1 Character Inspirations

Idea Exploration and Description

1. My Dear Balloon Boy (Ballon + Plushie + Dog/Bunny)

I want this character to be based of my favorite characters and soft colors, cause i want him to be soft and very welcoming and kind. (Even though i am afraid of ballons)

This character is really inspired by usahana from Sanrio, the colors are very variant but its still giving a very soft mood towards the character.

Description :
I kinda just want to heal from my fear of balloons which is why i created this adorable being , so that if i actually see a balloon next time i'll just think its just Doobie.

Exercise 2 - Illustrated Type

Week 5:
  • After finishing task 1 we proceed to start with our next assignment which is making illustration typography, we were instructed to generate our words in the word generator and i got the word "Elephant" and "Paper Clip"

Visual Research

After Exercise 1 by now we are already getting warmed up with the adobe illustrator application and tools, in this assignment we have to create an aesthetically pleasing illustrated typography, the challenges that we will face are :
  1. The illustrations and words have to complement each other
  2. Use non decorative fonts as the base of the design

Fig 2.1 Inspirations

Idea Exploration and Description

1. Elephant

For the word Elephant i had something in mind like the inspirations i put [see Fig 2.1 Inspirations], but cause we had a 3D tool, i wanted to include that tool into the word, since 3D will tool will give an effect of making the word look thick and big, which also gives a characteristic of an elephant.

Moodboard :

2. Paper Clips

For paper clips i had an idea of making the words made out of paperclip, adding the 3D tools too give some weight as if it is a real paper clips.

Reflection

  • this assignment is really fun, at first its really challenging because im not used to drawing or making illustrations using vormator or any tools from Adobe Illustrator, nonetheless i get thru the challenge but still its still very hard to get used to AI. but at the end of the day i got a hang of it even though im still learning and kind of not used to it, hopefully i'll be better on using AI soon.
